Selling solar in Tampa: build a discovery record the project team can use

A practical guide for Tampa solar reps: qualify the property, explain the complete price and hand off a customer conversation without losing its conditions.

Open with the property and the customer’s goal

A useful Tampa discovery conversation begins with the service address, the actual utility and what the customer wants to change. Lower energy costs, backup priorities, a roof project and a future EV are different goals. Ask which matters first, then record the answer in the approved workspace rather than turning every conversation into the same system pitch.

Confirm the person’s relationship to the property and who else needs to participate. A tenant, household member and property owner may have different authority. Ask permission before collecting or sharing bills and property records. Use the team’s approved follow-up and consent process; a prospect giving a phone number does not resolve every contact preference.

Separate verified records from sales assumptions

Request usage history through the approved secure process and note missing months, unusual occupancy or planned equipment changes. Describe roof concerns as customer-reported observations until the appropriate review occurs. Safe exterior photos or existing documents can help; do not ask a customer to remove an electrical cover or climb onto a roof.

A homeowner adding a pool or EV deserves a labeled future-use scenario. Record what is decided and what remains tentative. If the proposal includes batteries, write the desired backup loads and duration questions instead of promising whole-home operation. A clean record makes the design discussion more specific and reduces the chance that an estimate becomes an unexplained commitment.

Explain pricing with the entire scope visible

Present the equipment, installed work, exclusions and available payment path together. Use the approved price and proposal for the account, and keep compensation discussions in the permitted private tools. If roof, electrical, charger or battery work is outside the price, say where that scope will be reviewed.

Keep the remaining utility bill in the conversation. For a Tampa Electric account, distinguish local approval from the utility’s connection process. [1] Avoid a guaranteed activation date or savings figure. Origin Direct is a separate tracked customer path; a public introduction link does not turn a direct inquiry into an exclusive dealer lead.

Finish with a handoff the next person can act on

Before submitting, write the customer’s goal, property relationship, utility, records received, open questions and agreed next action. Preserve the customer’s actual conditions: a roof inspection still pending, another owner who needs to attend, or a preferred contact window. Name the person responsible for the next response.

Review onboarding questions before selling: approved market coverage, role permissions, submission requirements, escalation contacts and written compensation terms. An application introduces you to Origin; it does not authorize representation or guarantee a role. The standard for a good conversation is a customer who understands the next step and a project team that can see what was promised.

Bring these questions to onboarding

  1. Record the address, utility, property relationship and customer goal.
  2. Label measured records and future-use assumptions separately.
  3. Show installed scope, exclusions and payment terms together.
  4. Use approved lead registration and consent procedures.
  5. Name the next contact, open questions and follow-up owner.
