Using plain language in project updates
Plain language helps a homeowner act without learning the company’s internal vocabulary.
A practical approach
Replace unexplained status codes with a short description of the stage and what it means. Define any technical term that is necessary to understand a decision. Keep the message focused on the customer’s next step. Before sending, ask whether someone outside the company could identify what is confirmed and what remains pending.
Put it into practice
- Explain internal status labels
- Define necessary technical terms
- Make the next step obvious
General workflow guidance. Confirm current responsibilities, availability and terms with the appropriate team. This article is not a project-specific technical assessment or a promise of compensation.
