Discussing timelines without overpromising
A project timeline contains dependencies that may not be fully resolved during a sales appointment.
A practical approach
Explain the major stages and identify which dates are estimates, requests or confirmed commitments. Tell the homeowner what can change the sequence and who communicates updates. Avoid using another project’s duration as a guarantee. If a specific deadline matters to the customer, record it for operational review before promising that it can be met.
Put it into practice
- Label the certainty of dates
- Record the customer’s deadline
- Confirm through operations
General workflow guidance. Confirm current responsibilities, availability and terms with the appropriate team. This article is not a project-specific technical assessment or a promise of compensation.
