Documenting proposal assumptions
An assumption should be visible enough that it can be checked before someone relies on it.
A practical approach
Label the input, its source and the condition that could change the result. Keep assumptions separate from verified measurements and approved design information. During the appointment, explain the ones that materially affect the decision. When new evidence arrives, update the proposal version and identify what changed rather than silently replacing the earlier numbers.
Put it into practice
- Name the assumption
- Record the supporting source
- Version material changes
