Making proposal exclusions understandable
An exclusion matters when the homeowner could reasonably assume the work is included.
A practical approach
Discuss exclusions in plain language alongside the relevant scope item. Ask whether the customer expected that work to be part of the project. If they did, clarify the path for evaluating it before proceeding. A limitation hidden in small print may exist in the document but still leave the customer with the wrong practical expectation.
Put it into practice
- Discuss exclusions in context
- Check the customer’s expectation
- Route added scope for review
General workflow guidance. Confirm current responsibilities, availability and terms with the appropriate team. This article is not a project-specific technical assessment or a promise of compensation.
